Double Feature Fridays pairs studio favorites with new indie premieres, plus rare Entertainment Tonight interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.
Pluto TV is bringing back the classic double feature with a modern twist. Beginning Friday, August 21, the free streaming service will launch Double Feature Fridays, a weekly movie series created in partnership with Entertainment Tonight.
Each week will pair a familiar studio film with a new indie free-streaming premiere, connecting the two movies through a shared actor, genre, theme or story. Entertainment Tonight correspondent Emily Curl will introduce each pairing with original segments featuring archival footage from the program's extensive Hollywood vault.
The segments will include rare on-set interviews, behind-the-scenes stories and career highlights, giving viewers a deeper look at the stars and films featured each week. Combined with the movies, the segments turn each pairing into a curated Friday night lineup rather than simply placing two films back to back.
"We're building Pluto TV into a weekly movie night destination. Double Feature Fridays pairs a film people already love with one they're about to discover, then brings in Entertainment Tonight to host the whole night - turning movie night into a ritual our viewers won't want to miss," said Will Gurman, SVP of Content Partnerships & Programming at Pluto TV.
Curl added, "The stories behind a movie can be just as memorable as the movie itself. Double Feature Fridays gives us the chance to bring those moments into the experience in a way that's fun and unexpected, adding a new perspective to familiar favorites while introducing audiences to something new."
The inaugural double feature will spotlight Gravity and The Outer Threat, connecting two stories centered on humanity confronting the unknown.
Before Gravity, viewers will see an Entertainment Tonight vault segment featuring Sandra Bullock discussing the physical demands of her Oscar-nominated performance, along with a look back at George Clooney joining the production.
The evening will continue with the free-streaming premiere of The Outer Threat, starring Constance Wu as a retired astrophysicist whose quiet family life is thrown into turmoil after her partner makes a potentially life-changing discovery.
New Double Feature Fridays presentations will premiere every Friday at 8 p.m. ET on Pluto TV Spotlight, with the films subsequently joining the Double Feature Fridays on-demand collection.
The weekly lineup will draw from a wide range of studios and distributors, with films from Paramount, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, Radial Entertainment and others appearing alongside new independent streaming premieres.
Pluto TV plans to continue the series every Friday through the end of 2026. As the lineup moves into the holiday season, upcoming pairings will include Christmas favorites such as Scrooged and Bad Santa, along with both Bad Santa films.
The first wave of Double Feature Fridays pairings includes:
- Gravity + The Outer Threat
- Django Unchained + Outlaw Posse
- John Wick: Chapter 4 + Reckless
- Friday + A Hip Hop Story
- Pitch Perfect + 40 Dates and 40 Nights (2026)
- The Notebook + What's Love Got to Do with It (2022)
By combining familiar movies, new discoveries and archival Hollywood stories, Double Feature Fridays gives Pluto TV a recurring Friday night movie event while offering viewers a reason to return each week for a different pairing.
Double Feature Fridays premieres Friday, August 21, at 8 p.m. ET on Pluto TV Spotlight.
