Jake's Ambitious Duck and Mole Entrée Raises Questions as Heidi, Jake, and Peter Begin Their Final Three-Course Meals
The three MasterChef: Global Gauntlet finalists dream of earning that title. Each home cook impressed the judges with their ability to keep up cooking alongside Gordon Ramsay and Tiffany Derry. As they try to execute the perfect three-course final meal, the home cooks feel the pressure. In this exclusive clip, one home cook might have taken too big a risk.
MasterChef: Global Gauntlet celebrated international flavors and ingredients. While each home cook infused their heritage into every challenge, the competition highlighted both the connections and the differences. As each home cook shared their story, the heartfelt connection bridged differences across the various dishes.
With one three-course meal left to master, Heidi, Jake, and Peter have an opportunity to take the judges on a culinary journey. They must create a progressive meal inspired by their roots.
Whether it is a dish that stems from a family tradition or a perfect example of fusion cuisine, these home cooks need to execute as well as any professional chef. Concepts can sound amazing, but only flawless dishes will earn the judges' praise.
FOX graciously gave FlickDirect an exclusive clip from the MasterChef: Global Gauntlet "Finale Pt 1" episode. In this clip, Tiffany Derry questions Jake about his entrée. While his concept sounds delicious, judges can only taste the food on the plate.
Concepts can sound amazing, but only flawless dishes will earn the judges' praise.
As seen in the video, Tiffany's first question is, "Where is the duck?" While Jake answers quickly, it creates doubt about his ability to properly finish this dish. Although he should not make the duck-scoring mistake seen in a previous challenge, Jake needs to focus on properly cooking the protein.
Duck is not an easy protein to cook correctly. From rendering the fat to resting it to the right temperature, duck requires precision. If Jake is flustered or distracted, that star of the plate could quash his chances of winning.
Additionally, the video leads MasterChef fans to wonder if Jake has reverted to his old ways. Earlier in the season, he had complicated dishes with too many ingredients. That element, combined with poor time management, had Jake's plates missing the mark.
When Jake had a clear direction, he impressed the judges. He could cook alongside the judges effectively and ran the pass well. But when left to his own devices, he tends to get into the weeds.
While a mole is a smart example of channeling his roots, that element is complicated. A great mole has a plethora of ingredients. Additionally, it takes time to develop that robust flavor. Jake might have been too ambitious with this entrée choice.
Will Jake pull together his duck dish in time? Be sure to watch MasterChef: Global Gauntlet "Finale Pt 1" Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX. Episodes can be streamed the next day on Hulu.
