Synopsis of Casablanca (1942)

Set during World War II, Casablanca follows Rick Blaine, an American expatriate who owns a popular nightclub in the Moroccan city of Casablanca. Determined to remain neutral amid the growing conflict, Rick avoids becoming involved in politics or the struggles of refugees attempting to escape Nazi-occupied Europe. His carefully controlled world is disrupted when former lover Ilsa Lund unexpectedly walks back into his life alongside her husband, resistance leader Victor Laszlo.

As the couple desperately seeks travel documents that will allow them to flee to safety, Rick is forced to confront painful memories and make a choice between personal happiness and a greater cause. Blending romance, suspense, and wartime drama, Casablanca remains one of cinema’s most celebrated classics, remembered for its unforgettable characters, iconic dialogue, and enduring themes of sacrifice, love, and honor.
