The Following Cast Discusses Season Three at Comic-Con 2014

[MUSIC PLAYING] This is Sean Ferguson with FlickDirect at Comic-Con 2014 with a cast of The Following. How are you doing? I'm great. How's your Comic-Con going? All right. You know, it's quick. I mean, I'm always not even here for 24 hours, so. You know, I'm actually kind of a little jealous of Jimmy Kimmel because he gets the whole dance intro. You know, we laughed so hard when we saw that 'cause you are just still phenomenal with that.

- Thank you, it was fun, it was fun. I, you know, I pitched that idea to those guys thinking that it would just be some little tiny bit. I didn't really think of it as being quite as extensive as they ended up making it. And I really didn't think I was gonna be able to get through it, to tell you the truth, but it ended up good. They're a really well-oiled machine over there and they made it easy for me.

- Well, the following, I mean, we've been, I've been binge watching this thing like crazy, and Ryan is really kind of getting put through the mill. What do you got going on in the next season with Ryan here? - Well, we jump ahead, and hopefully we really do see a truly happier guy, a guy who has now finally put Joe Carroll in prison and has really decided that he can step away from his obsession with him, And he's found a woman that's really important in his life.

You know, at the end of last season, he was hoping to get together with Claire, but she, to her credit, said, "Listen, this is never gonna work between us. "This is a relationship that's kind of based "on damage and on pain, "and this is not good for either one of us." And so he's turned over a new leaf. - Wow, I saw, I heard you guys were in Hall H.

I heard it was insane. How are the fans reacting to this? It looks crazy. It's great. You know, the timing is really great to come to Comic-Con. I guess this is our third year here because we're about to start shooting in a couple of weeks and, you know, it's nice to just get a little shot in the arm to actually sit in Hall H and look across that sea of people who really dig the show.

And you know, you can sort of lose touch with that. you kind of work in a little kind of bubble. And so to really connect right before we go out makes us realize what a responsibility we have to do the best show we possibly can. - Well, thank you so much for coming out and talking with us. - It's a pleasure. - Continued success with the show. - Thank you, man.

- Thank you so much. - See you down the road. - It's been a year. Can you imagine how fast it just flies right by? - It does, it flies. It's good to be back, though. - And last year you got beat up. This year, you just keep getting it in for it, don't you? - Yeah, I get a severe beating almost every season. And emotionally, it's even worse. season two was rough on my character.

- It's just insane, so is it gonna continue getting darker? 'Cause it seems like your character's having real issues this past season. - Yeah, yeah, there was some real, I mean, his father was killed. You know, it was an awful year. But I think that the interesting thing about our show is that we will try to ride the fence between these awful things that are happening, but we don't want it to be dark all the time.

So I think the introduction of Max Hardy, Ryan's niece, last year and the potential romance that those two characters had is a really great counterpoint to all the awful things that have happened to Mike. And I think that's going to be the balance in season three, reacting and still having that obsession to go after Mark Gray, one of the twins, obviously, that's surviving, and also having Max in his life that can bring a little more potential happiness.

So I think we'll be riding that line. And I'm sure we'll go back and forth every once in a while. So you guys were in the big hall over here. - Yeah. - How insane is it getting for the following now at Comic-Con? - It's great. I mean, yeah, we made it to the big room, which was cool. And we had a great panel, really supportive fans. And again, it's fun to be at Comic-Con because we get to have that feedback.

And the only reason we get to continue making the show that we love so much is because we have the audience. And so it's nice to be able to see them face to face, interact with them, hear their questions, hopefully answer some questions they have. So it's satisfying to be here. - Well, one last one for you. Me and the girl, we totally flipped out when we saw your head crushed in X-Men.

- Oh, I know. - So are you gonna be in the next one? Are you coming? - Well, if you recall, I don't wanna spoil anything, but it was a time travel film, and at the end, Bobby is back with Rogue, and a lot of the X-Men are alive again, some of the ones we've lost over the years. - So we're gonna keep seeing you, right? - I hope so, I honestly don't know.

I know that they're developing other X-Men films. I have no idea if I'm gonna be a part of them. I'd love to, I've been playing that part for 13 years, something like that, so I'd love to do it again, but we'll see. - Well, we really appreciate you coming out and talking to us. - Thank you so much. - Awesome, thanks man. Pleasure. - You have continued success.

- Thanks man, good to see ya. - Thanks. - How is your Comic-Con going? - Oh my God, so fun! - I heard you guys were on Hall H, Insanity? - Yeah, I honestly, this is my first Comic-Con in San Diego. I had heard, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, this is incredible to me. The passion, the costumes, just the overall zeal. I mean, everybody is so into it, and it's a cool experience.

- Can I tell you, when you were following on that train, when you were going behind, We were all yelling at you, telling, "Turn back! No, please!" Your character is just so fantastic. Thank you. Tell me where you're going to go the next season. Yeah, well, I went to the writers and I definitely told them how much I loved the physical side that Max could employ.

Max is someone who is trained. She is an athlete. She knows what is right and wrong as far as the law enforcement and trying to help people. but also she's just so smart. You know, she's gonna be able to help Ryan profile these new, you know, sort of overall ominous bad forces. So it's gonna be a lot of pushing and pulling for her because she's still very moralistic.

She's still trying to do the right thing, but a lot of stuff has gone down, so she's sort of aware that she's gotta maybe cross that line again. - Well, we look forward to seeing you in season continue success with the show. Thank you so much. Enjoy the rest of your Comic Con with Little's laugh. - Your character's really intense. I mean, this last season has been something else.

- Yeah, it was fun. - So are we gonna get really, really dark this season? - I hope so. Hopefully it's just more, building on more fun from what we had last season. So only ever more complex, hopefully. - So what else is, did you get to do anything crazy around Comic Con this week? - No, really, we've been very, very busy, like kind of like saying hello to people, which has been great.

I mean, the event, Comic Con, in such a huge event for the fans, that I feel like we're guests here. And it's really wonderful to see how passionate they get about everyone who turns up in all the TV shows and all the films. So it's been wonderful just to observe that. - Well, I know you guys gotta take off. It's been crazy, but thank you for coming out and talking to us. - No worries.
