The Other Woman (2014) Blu-ray Review
3 Min Read
I give “The Other Woman” 4 Jettas out of 5.
"The Other Woman" is about Carly Whitten (Cameron Diaz) who after dating Mark King (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from "Game Of Thrones") for awhile, she decides to show up at his doorstep and finds his wife Kate King (Leslie Mann from "Knocked Up" & "This Is 40") at the door. Kate then decides to confront Carly about her relationship with her husband and after a few discussions, and many drinks, the two become friends in a bad situation. Once Kate and Carly realize that there is another in the mix, they decide to do some light recon and find that now Mark is seeing a third! Now its Carly's turn to freak out since Mark was now cheating on her with someone younger and hotter than her! Once Kate and Carly friend Amber (Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kate Upton) the three decide to join forces and Mark pay for his indiscretions and as the saying goes, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned… just imagine that x3!
Supporting the beautiful trio is a guest cameo of Don Johnson who plays Carly Whitten's dad. Its great to see him in this type of role and he still plays the sly dog great. Nicki Minaj also has a small roll playing Carly Whitten's assistant and while looking quite fashionable throughout, her nasal tone while speaking, got on my nerves. Manaj was truly the weakest link in this film. I think that may be the only mistake The Other Woman's Director Nick Cassavetes made. It's nice to see a fun comedy from Cassavetes since "My Sister's Keeper" (which also starred Diaz), "The Notebook" and "John Q" were all such serious films. It just goes to show, you can take a serious conflict and make a great comedy out of it!
Besides the comic genius of Leslie Mann and Cameron Diaz, what makes this movie special is at the very heart of the film is three women that find friendship in a truly crappy situation and instead of tearing each other apart, they make each other better in the end. While some may think right off the bat this is a total chick-flick, I totally enjoyed it and don't know too many that didn't laugh throughout. While watching it, and laughing my butt off, I realized that I really haven't seen a film that had Leslie Mann in it that I didn't like. She always plays these fun quirky parts but I am starting to think that after this film, maybe its time someone write a film for her to star in and carry without the need to put some top male lead opposite her. I would totally go and see it!
Cameron Diaz, while still looking amazing, seems to be on quite the comedic roll! After "The Other Woman" came out into theaters "Sex Tape" was released. While "Sex Tape" was quite funny, I found it to be quite odd that most of the publicity talk was about Cameron's age and not her ability to bring a comedy to fruition. It's quite obvious that Hollywood wants to start with the "she looks great FOR HER AGE" crap, and even in "The Other Woman" its seems as if they needed to throw in a younger swimsuit model, as if Diaz isn't enough of a stunner at the age of 41. Diaz may be 20 years away from her debut in "The Mask" but she is still Smoooookin! Keep up the fun work!
In this release is also a few deleted & extended scenes and a gag reel that is fun to watch! It's not a ton of extras, but do you really need a lot? It's just a really fun picture!
I give "The Other Woman" 4 Jettas out of 5
It may be a tad predictable, and a bit of a Chick-flick but its really funny, and can a guy really complain when we get to see Cameron and Kate running on the beach, in bikini's?
Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride.
